FAQ
-
What kind of paint is used on hand-painted jackets?I use Jacquard Fabric Paint, which is made explicitly for textiles.
-
How are hand-painted jackets created?I start by having a conversation with the buyer about what they want on a jacket. Next, I'll sketch the design onto the jacket using chalk or graphite. Then, thin layers of paint are applied, allowing each layer to dry completely before adding the next. This process builds up color and prevents the paint from cracking. Once the design is complete, the paint is allowed to cure for a specified period (e.g., 24-48 hours) to ensure proper adhesion.
-
Can a hand-painted jacket be washed?Yes, hand-painted jackets can be washed, but handle them with care. Hand washing is generally preferred over machine washing.
-
How should a hand-painted jacket be hand-washed?Use cold water and a mild detergent or baby shampoo. Avoid harsh detergents or bleach. Gently soak the jacket and softly rub any dirt or stains, avoiding vigorous scrubbing, especially on the painted areas. Rinse thoroughly.
-
Can a hand-painted jacket be washed in a washing machine?Although some sources say machine washing is possible at your own risk, it's generally best to avoid it to prevent damage to the artwork. If machine washing is necessary, turn the jacket inside out, use a gentle cycle with cold water, and consider placing it in a mesh laundry bag for added protection.
-
How should a hand-painted jacket be dried?Air drying is recommended, either by laying the jacket flat or hanging it to drip dry. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause color fading. Do not wring out the jacket.
-
Can a hand-painted jacket be ironed?Yes, but iron on the inside or back of the jacket, or place a thin cloth over the painted area before ironing. Use a low to medium heat setting. Avoid direct contact between the iron and the painted design.
-
What else should be avoided when caring for a hand-painted jacket?Avoid harsh chemicals, excessive heat, vigorous scrubbing, and prolonged soaking. Also, store the jacket in a cool, dry place and avoid plastic covers.
-
Can the design for a hand-painted jacket be chosen?Yes, I enjoy collaborating with customers on custom designs — that way, you'll never see another one like it. I welcome design inspiration and ideas from clients.
-
Can you send your own jacket for painting?YES! This is the only way. I have found that when a customer loves a jacket on them without paint, they'll also love the fit with paint. Once you have purchased a jacket option (partial back or full back), I will send you an email with the next steps, including a Zoom call to review your design ideas.
-
How long does it take to create a hand-painted jacket? The time varies depending on the design's complexity and my workload, but it can range from a few days to a few weeks.
-
Can a refund be obtained if not satisfied with a custom jacket?Due to the custom nature of hand-painted items, refunds are generally not offered. However, we can discuss how to fix or repair the jacket in case of wear or damage. Depending on the circumstances, a fee may be required to repair the jacket. We can discuss this further via Zoom or email if a situation arises.
-
Can I return the product?Due to the custom nature of hand-painted items, refunds are generally not offered. However, if damage happened in transit and you have photographic proof, I'll be glad to replace or repair the damaged item. Since these are original works of art, the replacement will not be the same as what you ordered.
